aaaaaand some digital

Here are some digital pieces that Tin Salamunic has been assigning and helping us work on.

Oil paintings

I have been in a figure painting class with Daniel Robbins as well as the illustration, and it is my first experience with oil painting. It is a jump into a very large ocean of possibility and I hope to continue improving as I feel I have. He has challenged me in color, concept and form in these paintings. Here is my work charting my progress.

some Art, not sketches.

Recently, I've been studying  under the amazingly talented Sterling Hundley. He and Josh George have made me think very hard about concepts, composition, and medium. Things like "dark object on a light background", "round shapes inside sharp shapes", and "rendered, flat, or patterned areas" were not generally in my thinking, but Josh and Sterling were able to instill these tools in my artistic arsenal. I have been searching different media, in order that I might find the result I'm looking for. This journey will never end, but it has been a fun start. Here is some of my progress.

These are a few of the studies I've done. Here are a couple finished pieces I did; one more is in progress.

I've been fortunate enough to go out with my fellow illustrators on many Tuesday and Thursdays to local coffee shops and sketch the patrons. Lately, it's been quite a routine and it has gotten my experimentation in my sketchbook to become much more daring. I'm enjoying this process of finding things i really like to do and I'm hoping to carry them over in my finished illustrations.

It's been a while and I've been working

I finished my last sketchbook and have started another. With this one, I'm hoping to broaden my curiosity and media experimentation. I've been adding more color and patterning in with the designs. Another big step for me is typography. It isn't very good right now, but as I continue using it in my sketchbook, my ability in type and image will progressively improve. This post is just the last few pages of my sketchbook.
